Kelly Karim
Born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1964 , I spent my days dancing, running through the woods and exploring the world around me.
Adventure and creativity are in my blood
A few years ago, after a life altering event, I decided to paint from my tranquil place of Chicxulub Puerto where my husband, sons and I had spent many summers. Chixculub Puerto is the beach town in the Yucatan that the meteor hit that distroyed the dinosaurs. The more I painted the more I healed, absorbing all the tranquility from the people, land and culture. The first series was called,
"Back in Time in Chicxulub".
Peace and beauty in the face of brutal elements manifest in color, movement and gesture. There is a soft vibrancyof mixing paint to capture depth and heart of both brokeness and resilience. The place where life itself could have ended, is the place where I began again. Resilency of my humanity exposed.
Projects moving forward
I continue to evolve both personally and artistically with inspiration from the Yucatan. In the next year as I paint, I will create a children's book from a selection of work in spanish and in english.
